You’ve got to accentuate the differences

Over the past week, Brendan O’Connor has been doing what ministers do in the parliamentary break: travelling the country, drawing attention to what your government has been doing, writes Laura Tingle in the Australian Financial Review.

What the Federal Minister for Housing has been spruiking lies at the heart of the tattered remnants of the Labor tradition. He has been pointing out how much money Labor has spent to get affordable rental homes built across the country.

Labor’s spending on public housing is a significant point of policy difference with the Coalition.

Yet Labor seems to have lost the ability to advocate these differences, perhaps because it has forgotten that they are supposed to be why they seek government.
